Marcus Guastella

We're one global team but we've got our own stories. Here's what makes us tick.

What did you learn in previous roles?

"It's not what you don't know that kills you, it's what you know for sure that just ain't true. There are no hard and fast rules in business or investing - every situation is nuanced and context is critical. It’s so important start with first principles and avoid generalizations. The most important question anyone can ask is “why”, even if the answer seems obvious."

Who has impressed you most with what they've accomplished?

"Sir Alex Ferguson and his reign at the helm of Manchester United. Fergie claimed an astonishing 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups and 2 Champions League trophies with his time at the club, all whilst developing some of the greatest players of all time. Most impressive was his last title which was comfortably won with a sub-par squad. It goes to show that team cohesion, leadership and management go farther than talent."

What’s your passion outside of work?

"I’m a big fitness enthusiast – running and cycling are my poisons. I also play soccer and practice martial arts. Outside of sports, I’m deeply passionate about business/investing and fascinated by (though largely ignorant of) history."

What’s your greatest frustration?

"Dogma. Special things most-often happen outside the bounds of conventional wisdom. I hate negative thinking around new ideas or bold suggestions. When there’s a will, there’s almost always a way."

What advice do you live by?

"Gratitude is the Attitude! Life is precious and fleeting. I try to count my blessings every day."
